Uncrowded Beauty

Wednesday, 17 January 2018

After the chaos of Roturua, bus crowds and yelling guides herding hapless tourists around gift shops, this quiet corner is wonderful. Easy to find if you ignore your GPS and actually follow the road signs (regardless of what some negative reviewers say). The short boat ride across the lake from the visitor centre to the thermal field adds to the sense of leaving the world behind. It has all the things you would expect to find in a thermal field. Unlike some places, there are no geysers 'on tap', artificially turned on at regular intervals, so you may not get an eruption. That's nature. The walking tracks are lovely. Enjoy a snack afterwards on the shaded lakeside deck. Love the toilet signs - 'Guysers' and 'Galsers'.
